Maynooth leads the mobile WiMAX

The first public mobile WiMAX network in the UK and Ireland, and the second in Europe, has been launched at the Institute of Microelectronics and Wireless Systems (IMWS) at the National University of Ireland (NUI), Maynooth.

Many trials of mobile WiMAX networks exist around the world, particularly in Asia, but Maynooth will be the only site publishing the results of its experience, making this a unique facility for collaborating with other universities and industries on a global basis.

With its optimised, embedded conversion engine to drive vegetable oil-powered car engines, Team Acidrain from National University of Ireland (NUI), Maynooth came second in the world’s largest student technology competition, the Microsoft Imagine Cup.

Intel too invest tens of millions of euro in its operations in Leixlip

The Sunday Business Post reports that chip giant Intel is investing tens of millions of euro in its operations in Leixlip, Kildare, to prepare employees to make the next generation of computer chips. Sources close to the firm said its US parent had approved a major capital investment in refitting its older facilities at Leixlip to manufacture new technologies. It is not clear if the investment will result in additional jobs.

A summer fair will take place at Rathoe Parish Hall, Rathoe, Co. Carlow on Sunday 29th June from 11.00 am - 5.00 pm.

Craftworkers from all over Leinster, including several from Kildare will display and sell their wonderful products.  Iron and wood, paper and textile crafts, soaps and candles, jewellery from talented designers are available, as well as Indian Head Massage,make-overs and nail art.

Sue will read the Angel Cards.  Delicious snacks available all day.  We haven't forgotten the little ones either.  How about Paint-A-Pot, balloon modelling or face painting?

A wide selection of books, videos, DVDs and classical CDs are very reasonably priced so come along and have a great time!

Admission is €2.00 and includes a FREE book or video of your choice
